Eventually I'm going to be putting together all the screenshots from our guild social events on our guild website; both to let us reminisce over past events and to give other guilds ideas for their own socials. (And for recruiting whenever we start that up again.) But until I manage that - and because I can't help but giggle over this now - here's what happened on our latest social...
I cheated a bit, that's the same image I used for our Flamingo Army event back in March. But that was because we'd decided to do this event rather quickly. We always knew we wanted to do more flamingo events - our hunters enjoy the taming challenge, and many of the group have hunter alts for just such humorous events. (Some have a flamingo stabled just for our socials.) What we didn't realize was how great it would end up looking once we got all the flamingos in a long line.
When we started lining up in Shattrath it was clear that it only took a handful of flamingos gathering in one place for the residents to wonder what was going on.
It took a while to get organized, and to remember where the "slow walk" function was on the keyboard. (It's the / key if you have a number pad. If you don't have that, you can always change the keybinding for Walk/Run so that it's one you can access.) Because it's never something you really need to find...until you do something like this.
What was fun for those of us in line was to watch the air show of other players swooping by, trying to figure out what we were doing.
The great thing was that once you lined up and had the person in front of you on follow - the pets lined up beautifully.
At this point we had about 16 or 17 flamingos in line. I'm still going through my screenshots to get a final count on the exact number, which may have been larger. We have more than just hunters with us too - it was never a "hunters only" thing, just "bring as many flamingos as possible and see what happens" sort of social.
Randomly just had to add this one - hey look, giant gorilla! Another glimpse of that notorious Giant Pet Bug that I love. Wish I'd gotten a better screenshot - but I couldn't exactly run and follow it or everyone that already had me on "follow" would be scampering after me.

Flamingos often clump in unusual ways...
We walked an entire circut around Shattrath, which I don't have any good shots of because I was getting video of everything. (We'll see how well that comes out later.) And then it was off to Ironforge - where again, I don't have good screenshots. The line was long by this time - both from other hunters joining and from players randomly tagging along for the fun.

Once in Stormwind we decided to go see the King - he's back now, since the last Patch.
Not that you can see him very well, what with all the flamingos all over the place. Also note in the right hand corner the Shade. We had several of these following us all the time, though it's hard to see them.
Except in this case, where a Shade drifted in front of me.

And then, group shot of flamingos only! Well, mostly flamingos anyway. It's always hard to coordinate things when not everyone's in vent, and by this time we had a group of folks who had no idea what was going on except that there were people running around with a lot of flamingos. (To be clear - I'd have followed such a group myself, were I not in it already!)
Two things about this shot. First of all - thanks to the Scourge our weather is always grey and foggy. Which is annoying as I know the colors of the flamingos would be so much more impressive in the sunshine. Ah well, all the more reason we must do this again later. Second, check out the shaman on the water in the canal to the right. Since when can shaman on mounts walk on water?! Why did no one tell me?!!

There we attempted to do the wave, and then cheering and dancing down the line. And it was wildly amusing.

Stay tuned, Windrunner! We have a guild bank packed full of fireworks to welcome in the expansion. On Nov 12th at 6:30 server time/Pacific time the guild will host The Burning Crusade Fireworks Finale. Everyone's invited. Look for us next to the flight master in Shattrath. We'll be setting off fireworks non stop til we run out! Shouldn't last all that long - so you'll have plenty of time to get out and get in line to purchase the Wrath of the Lich King!
