The Infamous Poo Quests: Outlands Trilogy of Poo, Part II - Zangarmarsh - 2008-06-18 02:47:44

part one of our Tour of Poo we move on to the lovely and soothing blues of the
Zangarmarsh locale - such a relief from all the harsh oranges of Hellfire. Then again it might just be breathing in all those mushroom spores that makes me feel that way - who knows what effect that may have on the brain.... (No, don't answer that, I'm happy here and I don't want to know!)
Right, so on to the poo. First you have to get to Friendly with the Cenarion Expedition, which will mean spending some time with the quests at Cenarion Refuge in eastern Zangarmarsh. But eventually you'll be offered the quest to hunt up the elf with The Quest - or at least you'll get the start of a chain that will eventually have you picking up poo.
Quest: Watcher Leesa'oh
This is basically a "find that questgiver" quest, so I'm not counting it as part of the chain. In any case, once you're sent to find her she's easy enough to locate, thanks to her handy tent and Buddy, the ...pet cat. I'd assume he's actually a cat mount except she never rides him, just...talks to him.
Ok, as a female cat owner...that only vaguely resembles me. Very
very vaguely. None of that "mommy's little baby" crap though, ugh.
Here's something humorous about Watcher Leesa'oh, which I haven't yet witnessed, but now have on my Must See list. According to the
comments on Wowhead if you hang around at just the right moment you can see her getting killed by the bog lords. So if you've ever been annoyed by any of her quests, that's a great revenge moment to hang around and catch. It also explains what might have happened if you've ever looked for her and couldn't find her. (She does path, but sometimes even if you search her pathing areas she's not there - her death would explain things.)
So now to business - now that you've met the questgiver...
Part II: Environmentalist Night Elf Requests Mushroom Poo Gathering - Part of a Series
Questgiver: Watcher Leesa'oh
Location: western Zangarmarsh, east of the Spawning Glen (coordinates 23, 67)
Quest #1: Observing the Sporelings
Happily this is a fairly quick quest to complete, and often done with other quests in the neighborhood to speed up time - but we're Poo Focused in this post, so research
Fahssn's quests if you need that info. For this observation quest you just need to go into the Spawning Glen - if you go to coordinates 15, 62 you should get the quest completed.
There, that quest complete and we can move on to...
Quest #2: A Question of Gluttony
For this quest Leesa'oh will ponder:
"I was wondering why the bog lords were crossing the road to go to the Spawning Glen - they must be starving for some reason. This just will not do! I mean, normally I wouldn't get involved, but if they continue to eat all of the sporeling pods they'll wipe them out!
Here's what we'll do: I'll stay here and you head to the Quagg Ridge to the east and look for dietary clues as to why they're raiding the sporelings."
...Collect 10 pieces of Discarded Nutriment and then return to Watcher Leesa'oh at the Cenarion Watchpost in Zangarmarsh.
This may be why we don't just adore Leesa'oh - what's all this "normally I wouldn't get involved" business? Made me really rethink what the Cenarion Expedition was up to in the first place. Sure she's a Watcher, but there's a difference between observing in order to learn and not helping at all. Ah well, she does try later - though you'll be doing the work.
I have to admit...I didn't "get" this quest the first time I did it. Probably because it was the early days of BC and I was grabbing the quests and hurrying through them, and not really reading very carefully. Plus let's look at some of that "nutriment" which you'll find at Quagg Ridge, around coordinates 28, 62 - in an area full of fungal giants and a handful of bog lords.
Just looks like a big glowy mushroom, doesn't it? Er, we'll ignore the fungal giant in the background sniffing its armpits - they always seem to do that when I'm trying to get a decent screenshot. Anyway, here's another "nutriment"...
Looks just like a mushroom stem. But let's take a closer look at the actual items collected:
Leesa'oh herself says in the
completion quest text:
"This is what you found? That's odd. These husked mushroom remains are both unusual and somehow look familiar."
"Discarded" and "desiccated" (that's "dried up" for those who may be wondering) - I think what we have here is poo, but the quest author was too polite to want to be very blunt about it. I think it's the Zangarmarsh equivalent of what we used to call "
cow chips" - which is what would happen to cow (and other large herbivore) dung once it dried - it would become light and easy to
toss. Which I suppose means that we should be happy it didn't get tossed around in this case - it's bad enough fighting off bog lords with their exploding mushrooms - at least they aren't throwing ...other things. I'm not going to ponder further that these giant critters could just have mushroom shaped poo, or that they just can't digest the entire mushroom, or can only get some nutriants from it - at this point that's too much mushroom poo talk, we must move on.
So you're just going to have to read between the lines that we're giving Leesa'oh the remnants of the giants and bog lords' poo to research what they've been eating. It's Poo Collection but with research in mind -
Scientific Poo Collection. This is definitely a step up from looking in poo for some lost keys - but questwise not as much fun without that felhound pet.
Oh and questing confession - I was going to do the entire
Trilogy of Poo Quests with the same character, my hunter. Unfortuntely I had somehow managed to do this one quest on my hunter - and so my warlock was the stand in for this time.
Thus you'll note there's a felguard tussling with that funal giant on the left there. That bog lord on the right is just about to meet up with him as well. At lower levels (62 and under) these guys will aggro on you like wild, so take care. They certainly weren't ignoring my 67 lock.
Leesa'oh has two more quests for you to complete - all part of her search for Whether Giants, Sporelings and Ogres Can Get Along, and seeing whether she can actually do more to help than just being a watcher. I probably would have found her less annoying if she hadn't sent me on the next quest in the series that had a really low drop rate for me.
But, that's for you to look into if you haven't already done it - because we have one last quest in the Poo Trilogy - in
Nagrand...
