Fire Festival Wardrobe

I've been spending way too much time on Fire Festival quests lately. But this year the gold and xp the quests give are insane. As in I'm making gold or leveling up characters like crazy - last year it was just about vanity gear, this year we have that as well as the additional perks. Very nice...

Pet Emote Love, Thanks to BRK

Thanks to BRK (Big Red Kitty) I discovered the Pet Emote addon a while back, and fell in love with having my hunter pet make all these random emotes about their hunger and contentment. (My favorite is having the type of pet that is set to "gnarl uproariously.") Not to mention being able to type /pet and then an emote and have someone then read: Ossuaria's Visera wonders if it would be polite to devour the gnome standing in front of him... Of course it's much funnier when you can see that Viscera is a large pink flamingo....

Um...You Have Fire Festival Breath

So I have this pack rat problem, see. After last year's Fire Festival I had lots of Fiery Festival Brew - and I thought it'd be great to stash some away and then use it at random times. And of course I completely forgot about the stuff until I had to finally Clean Out the Bank just to have room for things that were actually useful. So I stood around chugging some of the stuff and...hey...the graphic is totally different now. Check out the screenshots on Wowhead - that's what the after effects used to be, just belches of fire. Not that I didn't enjoy that - I adore fire graphics of all kinds...

The Infamous Poo Quests: Outlands Trilogy of Poo, Part III - Nagrand

This is actually the most familiar poo quest in the Outland. It's happily one that's at the start of a quest chain so no waiting through any other quests - boom, right up front you're out in the fields of Nagrand, mucking about in poo. And where do you go to indulge in such revelry?...

The Infamous Poo Quests: Outlands Trilogy of Poo, Part II - Zangarmarsh

After part one of our Tour of Poo we move on to the lovely and soothing blues of the Zangarmarsh locale - such a relief from all the harsh oranges of Hellfire. Then again it might just be breathing in all those mushroom spores that makes me feel that way - who knows what effect that may have on the brain.... (No, don't answer that, I'm happy here and I don't want to know!)Right, so on to the poo. First you have to get to Friendly with the Cenarion Expedition, which will mean spending some time with the quests at Cenarion Refuge in eastern Zangarmarsh. But eventually you'll be offered the quest to hunt up the elf with The Quest - or at least you'll get the start of a chain that will eventually have you picking up poo....

The Infamous Poo Quests: Outlands Trilogy of Poo, Part I - Hellfire

First I must apologize for anyone who might be offended at this trip knee deep into gaming excrement. That's just where these quests happen to lead us and - oh come on, we all think this is funny, right? I mean, we're playing a game that has us pick up random critters' feces, and as much as the text tries to dress it up, we're all totally aware of what we're doing. And yes, I was both disgusted and amused. Which is actually not a bad response. Sure it could be dismissed as juvenile, and mindless toilet humor. (Note that I'm not going to use my line about "dont pooh pooh these quests" as being just too terribly corny.) But it is something that makes us childishly giggle in disbelief as we end up completing these quests. So of course it's the kind of thing I'm going to have to post about. And ask you not to avoid them - because they're some of the more amusing quests in the game...

The Saga of Limbo of the Lost

I can't remember where I first bumped into this one, but it's just SUCH a bizarre story. Best links to the issue are this forum thread on Neogaf.com and this post on Rock Paper Shotgun. (I really love the name of that last site.) Here's the post that tipped everyone off on Gameplasma.com. Read through those and you'll learn the story of the game Limbo of the Lost, and the fact that as screenshots of the game have been examined it seems that the graphics have been lifted almost entirely from other games, with very little attempt to obscure this fact. Here's a news story about the game developers, before the whole comparative screenshot story came up...

So every now and then there's this bug that makes some hunter pets appear larger than normal. It's not something everyone can see, but it's definitely been reported here and there. Mania of Petopia posted about this size bug here, if you want to read more about it - it apparently has something to do with the pet once being an elite beastie. (Though not always. Like all bugs, it doesn't always make sense.) The point is that just because you know there's this bug...doesn't mean you'll be calm when you actually see it occur....

Thoughts On Age of Conan

No, I'm not deserting Warcraft, or even taking a vacation from it. I have other video games that I play offline from time to time, as the husband and I are gaming junkies of a sort. And when a new MMO comes out unless we really hate the concept we usually end up trying it. (Thus we've tried LOTR online, Hellgate, and even Auto Assault.) I had thought we would wait for an eventual Free Trial Weekend that most MMOs have, but then we were at Fry's and saw the game and so... The best part was that early leveling is so quick that the following thoughts are only from a few hours of gameplay. I'll probably pop back in and run one of the characters up to 20 just to be able to run around and see if I can take a look at the higher level content, maybe have a few exciting death stories to share...

Yes, Really, I PVP on My Priest

First, I should say VERY quickly, I'm always going to feel like a total noob at the PVP game. I'm in battlegrounds, and mostly running Alterac Valley. Now before anyone puts their head in their hands and bemoans yet another person who doesn't know all about PVP being in AV let me say - I'm a shadow priest, but I go in to heal. Also, I'm not really what most people consider the PVP type, as you can see from the rest of the blog. But I do have four pieces of pvp gear on my priest (only wearing two pieces in screenshot to the right there), so at this point it's safe to say I've learned a little. But I should explain a bit more....[Hopefully this will be useful. And not just lengthy blatherings!]

The Horror of the Pink Armor Set

Actually I really need to call this the Horror of the Gnome's Pink Armor Set, as it's really One of Those Gnome Things. Or maybe just Gnome Armor Gone Wrong. So the shorthand here for you new folk - Blizzard has a thing with the female versions of armor. It's a long running joke that for some reason the armor that's scooped out of the inside of various bosses or beasties (I always wondered why the stuff wasn't covered with gore) is sometimes going to have an oddly different appearance depending on the gender of the player equipping it. Put certain pants on a male character and they look like regular armor; legs are fully covered, no big deal. Put them on a female character....[Yes, I'm discussing skimpy armor. On gnomes. Nothing that would get you fired, just laughed at or looked at strangely. And no, this is NOT going to be a regular thing. Promise. Boy the flamingo thing looks tame now, huh?!]

Why It's Hard to Take My Gnome Warrior Seriously

I don't know why, but I'm finding it impossible to stop putting silly armor on my gnome warrior. It's not my only gnome character, but I think it's the fact that her gear is all plate and tanky that makes me stop every time I find anything particularly goofy looking and try it on if not buy it outright. Of course the pink hair was a particularly silly start...The annoying hair color was the reason I kept the helm on when I leveled her from 40 to 60+. The idea was to give her a neutral gender name and then if anyone pestered me, off with the helm and lo, annoyingly pink hair'd female gnome! Strangely the pink hair didn't seem to have the same horrifying effect on others, no idea why. Perhaps no one else is scared by the gnome cuteness attack. I was sure that was one of the gnomish powers.!....[WARNING: This and the next entry are kinda gnome heavy. Sorry about that, but gnomes are just one of those things that one must talk about sometimes.]

Haiku with your Disenchants, Enjoy!

As an enchanter I don't always feel like the most useful person. That's in part because enchanting is yet another "game within the game" - where there are countless formulas to collect, especially if you're trying to get them all as opposed to only ones your character can use. Of course if you're selling enchants that's the strategy that's going to make you more gold - and more power to you. I however hate the trade channel, and hate standing around a city trying to sell anything. Any formulas I collect are only because it's useful for my guild to have them, and frankly I'm just as happy if other guildfolk obtain them - as long as we have them in guild we're good. But what I am delighted to do is to disenchant anything for any guildmembers. And lately I've come up with a new "game within the game" for that - with every email of items to disenchant I send back the dust and occasional shards, and a Haiku of the Day. Note: these are not good haiku. Also I'm whappin these things out while I sit and disenchant items, so the content is not exactly epic poetry. Keep that in mind as you read!....

Warcraft Music and a Monty Python Prediction

Er, not that the music and Monty Python have anything to do with each other - those are just two random "oh, MUST share" items I have written down. First the music, and here's a great find: Warcraft Music Database. I wandered into that thanks to a post on Wow Ladies, and had the best time listening to all the sound files. I look upon the internet as a place always in a state of flux - sites come and go, content there one day can be gone the next. So I saved all the music that I wanted immediately and am now having a great time listening to it all. Meanwhile as I listen to the music of the Howling Fjord, I am now going to make a prediction. *cue dramatic music* I predict that somewhere in the expansion lands, somewhere near the Fjord there will be found a blue parrot of some kind, perferably dead....

Here's one of the recent attempts to advertise a gold selling website. ...As much as I liked the way they'd managed to creatively die all in a row like that on the Auction House steps, I couldn't help but notice that the names of the undead spelled out a gold selling website. But I was looking at my search results for this site and realized that folks are really going to have to cull through all my flamingo posts to get to the useful "how to" information, and the thought occurred to me that most players just want those facts quickly rather than having to read through the multiple entries on the Joy of Flamingos or the Ode to The Pink Bird and the other hooha that I've posted.
Shocking Blood Elf Rudeness in Eversong Woods! Also a Troll and her Flamingo

It's no surprise that Blood Elves are uppity creatures - we all knew this. But I have to admit I was a bit shocked by their treatment of my poor troll hunter. Well, to be fair, the attitude of one blood elf in particular. I rolled the character to attend an event off my usual server (and then sadly couldn't make it) but had fun getting my usual flamingo pet and then leveling up a bit in Eversong Woods just so I'd then be able to travel around without aggroing things for miles. I love that whole area - nice quests, a good bit of humor, interesting scenery and architecture. So my troll was over at Farstrider Retreat and went to Paelarin the Bowyer, thinking that I'd be able to repair and buy arrows from him...
